Job summary

National Employment Law Project (NELP) seeks a Development Director to lead fundraising across channels, reporting to the Executive Director and guiding a development team. You will shape strategy, manage grants, and cultivate donor relationships to expand revenue.

Based in Washington, D.C. or New York City, the role requires collaboration with leadership and program staff, data-driven planning, and strong communication with foundations, donors, and partners. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• 7 years of grant writing, research, or related fundraising experience.
• Experience understanding private philanthropy and grant-seeking processes.
• Experience developing or managing an individual donor program.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience leading diverse teams and collaborating with board members.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive development strategy and team.
• Draft funding proposals, donor appeals, and reports for funders.
• Oversee grants management, renewals, and reporting obligations.
• Coordinate with Executive Director, program staff, and leadership on fundraising plans.
• Cultivate relationships with foundations, corporations, unions, and individual donors.
