Job summary

Harvard University’s Office for Graduate Education in Boston seeks a Manager of Financial Planning and Operations to oversee day-to-day financial operations of HMS Graduate Education, develop budgets, provide financial reporting, and ensure internal controls.

Reporting to the Director of Financial Operations, the role leads the Finance Coordinator, partners with program leadership, and drives improvements in budgeting, reconciliation, and reporting processes while upholding university policy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
• Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience.
• MBA or Master’s degree in relevant field.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced excel skills.
• Knowledge of advanced financial administration principles.
• Demonstrated experience with financial systems and data query tools.

Responsibilities

• Budget Administration and Program Financial Management: primary financial contact for programs, review budgets, develop operating budgets, maintain workbook forecasts, prepare monthly reports, analyze variances, coordinate revisions.
• Financial Operations: oversee day-to-day financial administration, review journal entries and expense reports, monitor accounts, complete reconciliations, payroll allocations, year-end close.
• Supervision and Leadership: supervise Finance Coordinator, set priorities, review work, develop procedures, coach staff, resolve issues.
• Program Support and Consultation: provide financial consultation, assist with purchasing and budgeting, develop reports, train staff, coordinate with leadership.
• Process Improvement: lead budgeting, reconciliation, reporting improvements, implement new financial technologies.
