Job summary

The Wendt Center for Loss and Healing in Washington, DC seeks an experienced Director of Finance to lead the organization’s financial strategy and accounting functions. You will oversee the finance and billing departments, ensure GAAP compliance, manage risk, and forecast cash flow for a nonprofit focused on grief and trauma care.

• Experience leading finance and billing departments.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP.
• Experience in risk mitigation and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Maintains accounting department in accordance with GAAP.
• Supervises Senior Accountant and Billing Coordinator.
• Leads preparation and implementation of organization’s annual operating budget.
• Develops and manages accounting policies and procedures.
• Monitors spending in relation to budget with department and program directors.
• Tracks agency expenditures and receipts.
• Manages cost accounting and allocations for multiple programs and funders.
• Prepares cash flow projections and recommendations.
• Manages payroll service and tax obligations and reporting (e.g., Form 941).
• Manages preparation of DC and federal agency returns.
