SUNY Corning Community College in Corning, NY is seeking a Director of Finance & Controller to lead accounting, payroll, and financial reporting. You will oversee the Accounting and Payroll departments, manage month-end close, and ensure GAAP compliance while partnering with the CFO.

The role requires strong leadership, strategic financial planning, and coordination with external auditors and grant sponsors to support the college’s mission and community goals.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of GAAP, governmental and fund accounting, grant accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and higher education accounting practices
• Knowledge of treasury management, bank reconciliations, payroll administration, capital asset accounting, and regulatory compliance requirements
• Ability to prepare and analyze complex financial statements, reports, forecasts, budgets, and financial analyses
• Proficiency with ERP systems, financial management software, and advanced spreadsheet applications
• Ability to interpret and apply accounting standards, laws, regulations, grant requirements, and institutional policies
• Strong leadership, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
• Ability to supervise, develop, motivate, and evaluate staff while fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with auditors, financial institutions, regulatory agencies, grant sponsors, and College stakeholders
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to research technical accounting issues, exercise sound judgment, and develop practical, effective solutions

Responsabilités

• Direct and manage the operation and personnel of accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, capital, agency and grant accounting, and budgeting
• Direct day-to-day cash management and treasury operations, monitor cash balances, coordinate banking activities, and ensure liquidity
• Direct month-end and year-end close processes, review journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and reporting schedules
• Manage Accounting and Payroll Department budgets
• Provide financial forecasts, trend analyses, scenario modeling, and recommendations to support decision-making by CFO
• Direct and oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc financial statements for stakeholders
• Coordinate budget schedules, financial models, and supporting analyses for annual budget development
• Conduct technical accounting research and regulatory analysis to support reporting and policy development
• Lead utilization of financial systems (Banner) and promote efficient processes
• Oversee accounting for capital assets, depreciation, CIP, disposals, and inventory tracking
• Oversee financial administration of federal, state, and other sponsored awards including grant expenditures and reimbursements
