Job summary

BuyWander is seeking an experienced Controller to own the monthly close, inventory and cost accounting, and revenue recognition for our high-volume, multi-location operation. Reporting to the CFO, you will build the accounting function in year one and lead a team as the company scales, shaping a finance function from the ground up.

You will own inventory valuation, COGS, and landed costs, drive audit readiness, and partner on budgeting and margin analysis.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with close ownership
• Hands-on physical inventory accounting for multiple locations
• Experience building or leading an accounting team
• Understanding of hourly labor cost accounting and payroll accruals
• Experience applying ASC 606 to auction/marketplace revenue
• Experience with external audits and audit readiness
• Strong US GAAP and internal controls knowledge
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close end-to-end.
• Own inventory accounting for liquidated and overstock merchandise across locations.
• Apply ASC 606 revenue recognition to auction/marketplace transactions.
• Manage external auditors and drive audit readiness.
• Coordinate payroll accounting, AP/AR, and cash management.
• Develop and maintain internal controls and scalable policies.
• Partner with CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Ensure sales tax compliance across jurisdictions.
• Improve systems integrations between inventory and accounting platforms.
• Prepare board and investor financial reporting packages.
