Job summary

Murphy Search Group is seeking a Controller for an established electro-mechanical manufacturer in the Hartford/Springfield area. The role oversees financial operations, ensures reporting integrity, regulatory compliance, and supports strategic decision-making.

You will manage daily accounting, lead month-end/year-end closes, develop internal controls, mentor staff, and provide insights to leadership. Reports to the CEO as a key executive team member.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge in financial reporting, and regulatory requirements.
• Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Sage) and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and analytical skills.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the preparation and accuracy of all financial statements, reports, and forecasts.
• Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
• Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial laws and regulations.
• Lead month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Supervise and mentor finance and accounting staff.
• Support budgeting and financial planning processes across departments.
• Maintain cash flow management and monitor financial risk.
• Implement and maintain financial systems and technology for improved efficiency and reporting.
• Provide financial insights and analysis to leadership for strategic decision-making.
