Job summary

Blackbird Recruiting is seeking an experienced Financial Controller in Monroe, NY to lead the company’s accounting operations and ensure the accuracy of financial records. You will manage the full accounting function and provide final review on work performed by bookkeepers and staff accountants.

The role focuses on maintaining strong internal controls, delivering timely financial reporting, and offering insights to support strategic decisions.

Qualifications

• 7+ years progressive accounting experience including a controller level role.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and tax compliance.
• Proven ability to review work of bookkeepers and staff accountants.
• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks; familiarity with other systems a plus.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical/problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations performed by the bookkeeping and accounting team, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
• Conduct final review and approvals of all accounting transactions, reconciliations, and journal entries.
• Manage and lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process to ensure timely and accurate financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow).
• Prepare and analyze financial reports to support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
• Provide financial analysis and insights to management for strategic decision-making.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including timely sales tax filings.
• Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting policies and procedures.
• Coordinate with external accountants and auditors for year-end audits and tax filings.
• Maintain accurate records in QuickBooks and identify opportunities for process improvements.
• Manage key vendor relationships and review contracts as needed.
