Job summary

The External Communications Senior Manager at Boston Medical Center Health System will lead external communications strategy, advancing media relations, thought leadership, and conference engagement to elevate the system’s profile. You will partner with executive leaders, clinicians, and stakeholders to execute proactive campaigns that align with strategic goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required, with a minimum of ten years external communications and media management experience.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Five years of strategic planning and management of a team is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Proactively identifies and develops breakthrough opportunities with senior administrators and clinicians to draw attention to key focus areas.
• Provide executive communications support for strategic messaging, speaking opportunities, and conference management.
• Develops proactive media relations plans and manages media inquiries, ensuring opportunities align with strategies and objectives.
• Stays abreast of national/local health news and communications trends to forecast reputational headwinds/tailwinds and keep leaders informed.
• Ensures value-consistent, quality, compelling news and thought leadership content (press releases, op-eds, podcasts, blogs, speaker remarks, social posts).
• Works with leaders across hospitals and affiliated entities to identify reputational opportunities and manage risks.
• Serves as spokesperson to manage reputational risks and respond to crises.
• Identifies and develops spokespeople, leads media training, and supports speaking engagements.
• Oversee emergency communications and incident response media relations support.
• Directly supervise a Communications Specialist and focus on driving initiatives with metrics.
