Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University’s Hopkins Bloomberg Center is seeking a Deputy Director, Programming to lead the planning and execution of high‑level events, both virtual and in person, across divisions.

You will manage a programming team, oversee budgets, nurture partner relationships, and drive the speaker lifecycle from talent brainstorming to on‑site experience, ensuring seamless collaboration with internal and external partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Seven years of related experience in events sales and management, preferably in an academic or nonprofit setting.
• Experience substitutable by additional education or equivalent experience per policy.

Responsibilities

• Manage complex budgets and vendor negotiations, ensuring proper protocol and etiquette at all events.
• Lead staff hiring, coaching, training and performance management; determine staffing needs.
• Provide administrative direction for programs and conferences; implement planning processes for designated areas.
• Plan and execute key annual and special events, including large‑scale ceremonies and campaigns.
• Appoint sub‑committees, set timelines, and monitor progress across planning cycles.
• Serve as chair of planning committees and provide guidance to sub‑committees.
• Advise on vendor relationships and contract considerations for off‑site events.
• Stay updated on industry software (Social Tables, InitLive, Formstack, Eventbrite, Cvent, Boomset) and recommend tools to meet needs.
• Oversee virtual events using Teams, Zoom and related platforms; manage speaker lifecycle and engagement metrics.
