Job summary

Occidental College Library seeks a Director of Teaching, Learning, and Research Support (TLRS) to lead academic engagement, supervise librarians, and align services with evolving curricular priorities.

Reporting to the College Librarian and Director of the Academic Commons, the role advances information literacy, research support, and scholarly communication while partnering across campus to strengthen student learning and faculty success.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library and information science (MLIS, MLS, or equivalent) from an ALA‑accredited program, or equivalent education and experience.
• Four years of library experience, with at least three years in related areas of responsibility.
• Vision for advancing teaching, learning, and research in a residential liberal arts college.
• Knowledge of information literacy pedagogy, instructional design, and assessment.

Responsibilities

• Provides strategic and operational leadership for the TLRS department, supervising librarians and directing instruction, research support, and collection development.
• Leads the Library’s teaching and learning programs, information literacy curriculum, and partnerships with faculty to integrate literacies across the curriculum.
• Shapes research support and scholarly communication outreach, including open access and institutional repository initiatives.
• Cultivates academic partnerships and guides collection development to align with curricular priorities.
• Contributes to policy development and participates in library leadership and planning efforts.
