Job summary

Virginia Tech is seeking a Director of Research Security and Export Controls to lead university-wide programs ensuring compliance with federal research security and export controls. This role reports to the Assistant VP for Research Security and Chief Research Security Officer and oversees strategy, policy development, and risk management within OESRC.

Responsibilities include directing cross-functional projects, developing training resources, coordinating with IT, Legal, HR, and Research

Qualifications

• US citizen required.
• Advanced degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
• Secret-level security clearance capable.
• Knowledge of NSPM-33, CHIPS Act, export controls.
• Experience with ITAR, EAR, FACR regulations.
• Policy development experience.
• Strong communication and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the university's research security and trade compliance programs.
• Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and compliance programs.
• Lead cross-functional projects from planning to implementation.
• Perform risk assessments of international collaborations and TCPs.
• Manage OESRC program operations and staff development.
• Deliver education, training, and outreach on research security and export controls.
