Job summary

Alaska Communications is seeking a Director of Network Infrastructure & Planning to own Layer 1 network design and lifecycle stewardship for Alaska’s fiber and copper infrastructure. You will coordinate with Layer 2/3 teams to align plans with business and capital priorities, and translate demand into actionable budget inputs and project roadmaps.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in related fields required.
• Ten (10) years of telecommunications engineering/construction experience.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access).
• Equivalent education may substitute for years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Owns end-to-end planning and design accountability for Layer 1 network infrastructure.
• Oversees planning and availability for inside plant infrastructure including DC power capacity and rack readiness.
• Ensure Layer 1 infrastructure plans support reliability, route diversity, resiliency, and serviceability.
• Oversees analysis of facilities, route constraints, and capacity to determine augmentation needs.
• Develops, maintains, and improves network records processes for accuracy and accessibility.
• Coordinates Layer 1 planning with Layer 2 and Layer 3 to align with transport and routing strategies.
• Facilitates decision-making when Layer 1 constraints affect other layers.
• Develops budget inputs and capital forecasts for network projects.
