Job summary

Bank of Montreal seeks a Director, Commercial Governance & Controls Initiatives to lead hands-on risk analysis and support governance across U.S. Commercial Banking.

You will deliver actionable insights, drive control enhancements, and coordinate remediation and transformation programs with 1LOD/2LOD/3LOD stakeholders. The role requires deep risk expertise, extensive Commercial Banking knowledge, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams while aligning with risk appetite and regulatory

Qualifications

• Typically 9+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field.
• Seasoned expert with extensive Commercial Banking and Risk Management knowledge.
• Program management skills - Expert.
• Verbal & written communication skills - Expert.
• Analytical and problem solving skills - Expert.

Responsibilities

• Designs measurable sustainment strategies including assessing and recommending mitigations for segment-specific risks.
• Evaluates control effectiveness and partners with management to address identified risks and deficiencies; guidance on control design and operation.
• Performs root cause and trend analysis on issues, incidents, audit findings, and risk indicators to support management action plans.
• Coordinates response activities for material risk events, including root cause analysis, impact assessment, remediation planning and implementation.
• Represents the business/group in Working Groups/Governance Forums/Committees and provides regular updates.
