Job summary

The Smithsonian Institution seeks an Associate Director for Collections and Exhibitions in Washington, DC. This role provides strategic leadership and oversight of registration, art handling, exhibition design and production, museum lighting and technology, and exhibition planning and touring.

You will collaborate with senior leadership to set priorities, manage multi-year schedules, loan agreements, and ensure projects meet interpretive, aesthetic, and accessibility objectives while staying on

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-13 in the Federal Service.
• Specialized experience is supervising multidisciplinary staff and serving as a senior advisor for collection care, exhibition planning, and exhibition development.
• Resume must be no more than two pages and clearly demonstrate alignment with responsibilities and specialized experience.
• Volunteer experience and non-traditional work can count toward total experience.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Director and senior leadership to establish strategic priorities for collection care and exhibition development.
• Manage short- and long-term planning of the exhibition program, including multi-year schedules, rotations, touring exhibitions, and loan agreements.
• Provide leadership to subordinate supervisors, overseeing resources, timelines, and exhibition activities to ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget.
• Work with curators, educators, designers, and stakeholders to ensure exhibitions meet interpretive, aesthetic, and accessibility objectives.
