Job summary

OpenAI seeks a Forward Deployed Security Engineer to secure deployments for high-impact public sector work. You will embed across the lifecycle, working on-site, shaping security from design to production and ongoing operations.

You will collaborate with engineering teams, leverage cloud and container security tools, and travel to customer sites as needed. A strong security background and clearances will support this role.

Qualifications

• Active US security clearance.
• 5+ years of security engineering experience, with focus on infrastructure, application, network, datacenter and systems engineering.
• Familiarity with deployment models on cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and underlying infrastructure primitives.
• Proficiency in Python, Go or similar languages.
• Track record of developing high-quality, scalable, and secure infrastructure.
• Experience with security operations including insider threat monitoring, endpoint detection and response, or red team activities.
• Knowledge of modern adversary tactics, techniques and procedures.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team.

Responsibilities

• Deeply embed with strategic public sector customers to implement and maintain robust security controls.
• Serve as design and technical thought partner leveraging security expertise on protective controls including access, authentication, encryption, network and system security.
• Collaborate with teammates, cross-functional teams, customers and service providers to meet security and compliance goals.
• Ensure continuity of critical security and monitoring controls through routine security assessments, threat monitoring and validation exercises.
