Job summary

VCU School of Dentistry in Richmond, VA seeks an Assistant/Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Development to lead faculty‑related programs, policies, and initiatives. You will align with policies, accreditation standards, and the School’s mission while collaborating with chairs, Human Resources, and senior leadership.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or terminal degree in a field related to academic administration.
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in higher education, faculty affairs or academic administration.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee faculty appointment, reappointment, promotion, and tenure processes per policies and bylaws.
• Maintain faculty policies and governance documents; ensure consistent interpretation across departments.
• Oversee annual faculty evaluations, workload documentation, and performance improvement plans.
• Serve as a primary resource for faculty regarding policies, career pathways, compliance and expectations.
• Support onboarding, retention strategies, position development, search processes and succession planning.
• Coordinate onboarding programs for new faculty on policies, teaching expectations, clinical operations, and culture.
• Manage faculty promotion and tenure processes with guidance and compliance with university guidelines.
• Support retention initiatives that strengthen engagement and long-term commitment.
• Ensure processes comply with CODA standards, university policies, and regulations.
