Job summary

Blue Cross NC in the United States seeks a Principal Data Scientist to lead complex data science and engineering initiatives that translate data into strategic business decisions. You will own multiple large projects and partner with enterprise teams to deliver valuable analytic products.

Responsibilities include developing hypotheses, designing scalable data pipelines, building predictive models, and communicating insights to executive leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in a related field; in lieu of degree, 10+ years of experience.
• Strong analytic/data science skills.
• Experience with Snowflake and building AI agents.
• Understanding of Bell curve analysis and industry benchmarks.
• Perform outlier detection and healthcare Payment Integrity/FWA knowledge is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and testing of hypotheses across functional data sets.
• Lead requirements gathering sessions to distill technical requirements from business requests.
• Define and implement integrated data models across multiple sources.
• Design scalable data pipelines for ingestion, cleansing, transformation, integration, and validation.
• Define and implement data stores based on system and consumer needs.
• Develop models using data mining, statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and related techniques.
• Build production models leveraging Python and R.
• Engineer new data sets and write SQL to integrate data and resolve quality issues.
• Apply big data concepts to data set engineering and analytic model implementation.
• Lead development and reviews of complex analytic models and algorithms.
• Identify actionable insights and communicate results to cross-functional teams.
• Document and test analytic processes with performance validation.
