Job summary

The University of Washington’s Applied Physics Laboratory seeks a Contractor Special Security Officer (CSSO) to lead the Compartmented Security Program. You will integrate SCI, personnel, physical security, and information assurance into a unified, high‑performing security program.

You will advise executive leadership, manage CSSRs, and ensure compliance with IC/DoD/NISP directives, while balancing risk, operations, and sponsor expectations in a dynamic research environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or related field with 6–8 years of SCI/SAP leadership experience.
• Equivalent combinations of education, military service, and security experience may substitute for degree.
• Experience leading integrated security operations for classified research or national security programs.
• Knowledge of IC/DoD/NISP security requirements and related directives.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and executive oversight of the Compartmented Security Program.
• Direct operations of the Special Security Office and CSSRs.
• Develop, implement, and enforce policies for SCI/SAP operations.
• Advise executive leadership on security, risk, and regulatory compliance.
• Align security strategy with laboratory priorities and university objectives.
• Oversee SCI eligibility, indoctrinations, and personnel access management.
• Coordinate IA integration and cybersecurity coordination with security operations.
• Direct SCIF accreditation, lifecycle management, and facility security standards.
• Lead governance, inspections, and remediation of findings.
• Represent the university to government sponsors and oversight agencies.
