Job summary

Minnehaha County in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a Commission Administrative Officer to advise and support the Board of County Commissioners in the leadership and administration of county government. This full-time role leads a team of staff and helps implement policies and programs for 700+ employees across 17 departments.

The successful candidate will develop legislative relationships, prepare legislation, manage budgets, and oversee contracts and meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in public administration, business, or closely related field.
• Seven years of progressively responsible public administration experience.
• Ability to develop collaborative relationships with local, regional, and national stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Advise and support the five-member Board of County Commissioners in county leadership.
• Develop and maintain relationships with legislators to advance the county agenda.
• Prepare legislation, testify before committees, and analyze impacts of enacted laws.
• Coordinate budgets, organize hearings, and oversee ordinances and resolutions.
• Supervise Commission Office staff, including hiring, training and performance.
