Job summary

Birdy Grey, a fast-growing D2C bridal brand, is seeking an accomplished Controller to lead all accounting functions from a remote US-based team. You will own the close processes, drive audit readiness, and strengthen internal controls while collaborating with FP&A, Operations, and Merchandising to ensure accurate inventory and revenue recognition.

The role requires 10+ years of progressive accounting, including public accounting, with Tech/AI-enabled workflow experience and a hands-on leadership

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• 10+ years progressive accounting experience, incl. 3+ years in public accounting.
• Direct experience with M&A due diligence and post‑close accounting.
• Experience in a direct‑to‑consumer/e‑commerce/apparel company with strong inventory knowledge.
• Proven track record owning close and external financial statement audits.
• Deep knowledge of US GAAP—revenue, inventory, reserves.
• Experience building internal controls in growth‑stage companies.
• 3+ years managing accounting staff; advanced Excel skills.
• Interest in applying AI tools to automate workflows.
• Entrepreneurial, proactive, detail‑oriented with strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Own month-, quarter-, and year-end close with fast, accurate reporting.
• Lead external audits and prepare audit-ready documentation.
• Oversee GAAP compliance for revenue, inventory, leases, and stock comp.
• Manage inventory costing, landed costs, and physical/cycle counts.
• Prepare for due diligence and potential strategic transactions with data rooms.
• Design and maintain scalable internal controls (SOX-lite).
• Coordinate tax compliance with federal/state authorities and remittance.
• Oversee treasury, cash management, and covenant reporting.
• Drive close automation and AI-enabled workflows with existing tools.
• Lead and develop accounting team; partner with FP&A, Ops, Merchandising.
