Job summary

Kforce's client in Linthicum Heights, MD is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead accounting operations and partner with executive leadership on financial initiatives. This role oversees all accounting functions, budgeting, forecasting, payroll oversight, and process improvements while mentoring a small team.

Ideal candidate has 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, strong GAAP knowledge, and demonstrated leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Controller/Assistant Controller/Accounting Manager or similar leadership experience
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and full-cycle accounting operations
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
• Proven people leadership and team management skills
• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting and finance operations, including month-end and year-end close processes
• Prepare and review financial statements and management reporting
• Develop budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support business decisions
• Oversee payroll processes and ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations
• Manage sales tax, regulatory compliance, and other financial reporting requirements
• Partner with executive leadership on strategic planning and operational initiatives
• Supervise and mentor accounting, payroll, and administrative staff
• Improve processes, internal controls, and reporting capabilities
• Support relationships with external accountants, auditors, insurance providers, and other business partners
• Participate in ERP evaluation, selection, and implementation efforts
• Ensure business continuity through cross-training and effective department management
