Job summary

Jobot seeks a Controller in Chicago, IL for a hybrid, permanent position. You will oversee daily accounting operations, lead monthly/year-end closes, and partner with senior leadership to drive financial performance.

With 7+ years in accounting and strong GAAP expertise, you will manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and internal controls while mentoring staff. This Chicago-based, hybrid role offers substantial growth and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field. CPA preferred, not required
• Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with prior Controller or Accounting Manager experience
• Strong command of GAAP and financial reporting
• Proven ability to own the month end close and prepare financial statements
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management
• Background in a small to mid sized, privately held company where the Controller rolls up their sleeves
• Experience with inventory, distribution or product based accounting is a strong plus
• Comfortable communicating directly with ownership and senior leadership

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, AP, AR, cash management and reconciliations
• Lead the monthly and year end close, producing accurate financial statements and management reports
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow projections and financial analysis
• Partner with senior leadership to deliver reporting and analysis that drives business decisions
• Track revenue, expenses, margins, inventory and overall financial performance
• Oversee accounting for product sales, distribution, transportation and supplier relationships
• Maintain strong internal controls and protect the integrity of financial data
• Coordinate with outside CPA firms, tax advisors, auditors and banks
• Support annual tax preparation, audits and compliance requirements
• Spot and implement improvements to accounting processes, reporting and controls
• Build and maintain financial models and reporting tools for leadership
• Work across operations, sales and logistics to explain financial results and trends
• Manage and develop accounting staff as the organization grows
