Job summary

The City of Lansing is hiring a Community Development Coordinator to support housing, real estate, and economic development programs. The role requires strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills with the ability to interpret complex regulations and manage multiple projects.

Ideal candidates possess a Bachelor’s in business or related field, real estate/training, and at least five years in community development, including supervisory experience and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business or planning.
• Training in real estate, construction, or related field.
• 5 years of professional experience in community development with grant programs.
• 2 years of supervisory experience (state or local government preferred).
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Completes acquisition, demolition, marketing, and disposition of real property to support community and economic development.
• Plans work, supervises, trains, and participates in hiring, evaluating, and disciplining subordinates.
• Prepares staff reports and resolutions for City Council action.
• Manages grant-funded homebuyer assistance programs; handles mortgage loans, liens, and related funds.
• Drafts deeds, mortgages, licenses, easements, liens, leases, and other legal documents.
• Develops and maintains operating procedures with applicable regulatory requirements.
• Obtains appraisals, surveys, environmental reports and title commitments; verifies legal descriptions.
• Negotiates purchase, sale, or lease of real property with compliance to laws and regulations.
• Coordinates relocation activities as required for affected properties.
• Provides direction and coordination to Development Division staff.
• Conducts field inspections or coordinates inspections with Building Safety or Code Compliance.
• Helps prepare federal reports (CAPER, budgets, program accomplishments).
