Job summary

The City of East Lansing is seeking a Housing Administrator to oversee the rental license program, manage budgets, and report to the Building & Housing Official.

This leadership role supervises staff, coordinates with the Housing Commission, and ensures compliance with housing ordinances while serving residents, students, and local businesses.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree and several years of experience; it blends office work with site inspections and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in real estate, public administration, public policy, or related field.
• 3–5 years of related experience required.
• Experience supervising staff preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license likely required.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, manages, and evaluates assigned employees, including hiring, discipline and performance appraisals.
• Manages all operational aspects of the rental license program, including budgets, fees, invoicing, renewals, and licensing.
• Maintains the vacant property registry and enforces licensing compliance.
• Oversees revenues and expenditures of the housing budget and updates related fees.
• Supports the Housing Commission and City Council with meetings, reports, and records.
• Uses the city’s municipal software to manage records and respond to inquiries.
• Collaborates with other departments on planning, fire safety, Public Works, and related projects.
