Job summary

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC Health Department) seeks a City Research Scientist to lead the Bureau of Communicable Disease's strategic communications, partnerships, and policy initiatives. The role drives data-driven public health messaging and cross-agency collaboration to prevent and control infectious diseases throughout NYC.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in physical, biological, environmental sciences or public health.
• Doctorate in an appropriate field with supervisory/leadership experience, or a master's with three years of full-time research experience.
• Two years as City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience.
• Residency in New York City generally required; some flexibility discussed.
• Appointment subject to a one-year probationary period.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement policies for communicable disease control and prevention.
• Oversee strategic communications and partnerships related to disease control.
• Supervise the Community Outreach and Health Education team.
• Coordinate community outreach activities with subject matter experts to strategize health education.
• Collaborate with government agencies, laboratories and stakeholders on disease control and emergency planning.
