Wayne County Michigan is seeking a Communications Manager to report to the Deputy Director of the Economic Development Department. The role provides cross‑departmental insight across four divisions and focuses on identifying compelling stories from ongoing projects for external and internal audiences.

The successful candidate will ensure consistent branding and effective representation of the department, while managing media opportunities and internal communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism or related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in related field.
• Experience with various communication techniques and resources.

Responsibilities

• Analyze federal grant distributions to identify potential stories for internal and external audiences.
• Pitch Economic Development stories to local and national media with high volume and key outlets.
• Create a social media strategy for Economic Development activities and coordinate its implementation with Communications Department.
• Coordinate press conferences, conference appearances, and other media opportunities for the Department.
• Facilitate internal County communications regarding Economic Development activities and achievements.
• Oversee branding needs including templates, presentation support, merchandise and collateral orders.
• Update monthly or bi-monthly newsletters with events, business news, tools, and partner updates.
