Job summary

BLN24 seeks a Senior Strategic Communications Specialist to support USARIEM’s Commander and PAO, translating complex research into clear, factual communications for leaders, Warfighters, researchers, partners, and the public.

The role requires working with scientists, engineers, and SMEs, handling editorial planning, content development, social media, events, photography, videography, and marketing material development.

Qualifications

• Five+ years in public affairs, journalism, or strategic communications.
• Experience supporting military, defense health, or environmental medicine missions preferred.
• Ability to translate complex technical topics into clear communications.
• Strong news, feature, web, and social media writing/editing skills.
• Working knowledge of AP style and plain-language communication.

Responsibilities

• Maintain editorial and event calendars aligned with research milestones and leadership engagements.
• Research and propose story ideas to raise awareness of USARIEM's mission.
• Interview scientists and SMEs on complex topics.
• Write/edit publication-ready content: news, features, newsletters, press releases, web content, video scripts.
• Develop social media content and coordinate a content calendar with PAO review.
• Capture photography and video during research activities and events.
• Produce multimedia products with basic editing and captions.
• Coordinate with BLN24 for advanced design and production support.
• Ensure compliance with OPSEC, CUI, accessibility, and DoD standards.
