Job summary

The City of New York, Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD), seeks a Communications Director to lead public communications and strategy. You will advise the Commissioner, coordinate with senior leaders, and oversee media relations, messaging, and communications programs to advance disability inclusion across city agencies.

You will supervise the communications team, develop proactive campaigns, and ensure messaging aligns with MOPD and the Mamdani administration’s values.

Qualifications

• Hold a baccalaureate degree and at least six years of communications experience.
• Education and/or experience equivalent to the above.
• Experience in government, advocacy, nonprofit, or campaign settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop a cohesive voice through all communications media including press responses and social media.
• Manage rollout of communications projects and campaigns.
• Advise the Commissioner on communications and report to the Chief of Staff.
• Build and maintain relationships with media partners and other city offices.
• Supervise the Communications Team and coordinate cross-agency efforts.
