Office of the New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is seeking a Communications Director to lead the public-facing voice for MOPD. The role centers on elevating visibility, shaping strategic communications, and advising senior leadership on messaging across press, digital media, and events.

The position requires 6+ years in communications within government or advocacy, excellence in writing, and strong collaboration with journalists and partners to advance disability justice and NYers’ interests.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of communications experience in government, advocacy, nonprofit, or campaigns.
• Experience with executive-level decision-making and working with senior leaders.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong understanding of the New York media landscape and policy context.
• Experience collaborating with journalists and media organizations.

Responsibilities

• Develop a cohesive, public-facing voice across press, digital, branding, and public appearances.
• Oversee rollout of strategic communications projects and campaigns.
• Advise the Commissioner on communications and public information matters.
• Write and edit speeches, remarks, quotes in the Commissioner’s voice.
• Coordinate with City agencies and partners to promote events and resources.
• Manage media targeting, story development, pitches, and relationships.
