Job summary

Vallejo City Unified School District is seeking an Assistant Director of Communications & Digital Strategy to lead the district's strategic communications, public relations, and community engagement plan. This role reports to the Chief Communications and Community Engagement Officer and exercises independent judgment in media relations and crisis communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field.
• Five years of progressive communications/PR experience with at least two in lead or management.
• Experience in a K-12 public school district or public agency preferred.
• Master's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and evaluate the District's strategic communications plan.
• Lead digital communications including websites, social media, and mass notifications.
• Supervise coordinator and communications staff.
• Draft press releases, talking points, and executive communications.
• Ensure branding consistency across schools and departments.
• Coordinate district-wide communications for LCAP and public information campaigns.
• Prepare metrics reports on communications performance.
• Manage communications office budget.
• Ensure accessibility and language-access compliance.
