Job summary

The City of San José is seeking an experienced Major Events Program Manager to lead two high‑profile civic initiatives—the 250th Anniversary and the 70th anniversary of the San José–Okayama Sister City relationship.

Located in the City Manager's Office of Economic Development and Cultural Affairs, this 18‑month limited‑term role requires strong project leadership, cross‑department coordination, and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and four years of professional analytic/administrative experience.
• Master's degree preferred, and can substitute for one year.
• Valid California Driver’s license may be required for some assignments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, planning, and project management abilities.
• Experience coordinating large-scale public events or community initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic planning for the 250th Anniversary and the 70th Anniversary of the San José–Okayama Sister City Relationship.
• Develop comprehensive implementation plans, objectives, milestones, timelines, budgets, and performance measures for both initiatives.
• Coordinate engagement with city departments, Mayor and Council District Offices, community organizations, and partners.
• Prepare reports, briefing papers, and presentations for senior leadership and council.
• Coordinate planning for a signature citywide celebration and related anniversary activities.
