Job summary

The City of Claremont is seeking a thoughtful, motivated Principal Planner to join our growing Planning Division. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the City’s growth and development while working alongside an experienced City Planner who provides mentorship, knowledge sharing, and professional support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in urban planning or a related field.
• Master's Degree and/or AOCP certification is desirable and may count as one year of experience.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in urban planning, including one year in a lead or supervisory capacity.
• A valid California driver's license with a good driving record is required.

Responsibilities

• The Principal Planner may supervise employees and provide technical direction.
• Lead development review, long-range planning, state and federal compliance planning, and historic preservation projects.
• Prepare reports and recommendations relative to assigned area of responsibility and direct complex projects to completion with support from the Division Manager and Department Director.
• Attend Commission meetings in the evenings and participate in related public meetings and events.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in urban planning or related field

Master's Degree and/or AOCP certification desirable
