Job summary

The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is seeking a strategic Chief Financial Officer to shape the organization’s next growth chapter. This executive will lead all financial functions, modernize systems, and ensure fiscal discipline while expanding programs and funding streams across the region.

Reporting to the CEO and collaborating with the Board, the CFO will drive GAAP-compliant reporting, audit processes, and risk management, building a high-performing finance team in a dynamic, impact-driven

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field with CPA is required.
• Extensive senior-level financial management experience in complex, multi-revenue organizations.
• Experience with investments, reserves, government grants, audits, and compliance.
• Strong systems orientation including financial systems implementation or modernization.
• Proven ability to lead and develop teams through growth and change.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive strategic leadership across all financial functions including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, analytics and reporting.
• Translate complex financial information into actionable insights for decision-making and long-term sustainability.
• Oversee annual operating and capital budgeting, forecasts, dashboards and performance metrics.
• Guide financial planning, investment reserves, and regulatory compliance across federal/state grants and 501(c)(3) obligations.
• Lead system modernization and collaborate with leadership to support mission delivery and innovative funding models.
