Job summary

BI Incorporated in Boulder, Colorado is seeking a Senior Buyer/Planner to bridge forecasting and procurement, ensuring material availability to meet production targets and customer commitments. This role minimizes costs and optimizes inventory health.

You will build master production schedules, negotiate with vendors, monitor forecast accuracy, and collaborate with Product, Operations, and Finance to align demand with supply strategies while driving supplier performance and risk mitigation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Five+ years of experience in supply chain management, procurement or related area in manufacturing.
• CPM / APICS certification preferred.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills reflecting the global market and supply base.
• Strong verbal and written communication with internal/external contacts at all levels.
• Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office.
• Extensive knowledge of MRP systems; Syteline ERP preferred.
• Knowledge of contract law and accounting; strong quantitative skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
• Team player with high ethics; compliant with regulations.
• Strong strategic and tactical focus; procurement law knowledge.
• Experience with procurement systems and purchasing policies.

Responsibilities

• Bridge demand forecasting and procurement to minimize cost.
• Monitor forecast accuracy and improve planning processes.
• Negotiate pricing and issue purchase orders; expediting shipments as needed.
• Cultivate vendor relationships and evaluate performance.
• Identify capacity constraints and potential shortages before impact.
• Monitor stock levels to reduce stockouts and excess inventory.
• Collaborate with Product, Operations and Finance to align forecasts with supply.
• Improve inventory turns while maintaining service levels.
• Lead initiatives to reduce lead times and improve supplier responsiveness.
• Support supplier issue resolution and escalations.
• Oversee consignment inventory where applicable.
• Source components from new and existing suppliers; avoid sole sourcing.
• Drive supplier accountability for delivery, quality, and capacity commitments.
• Lead quarterly business reviews with strategic suppliers.
• Develop risk mitigation plans for critical materials.
• Monitor market conditions and geopolitical risks affecting supply.
• Build inventory and sourcing strategies to protect operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
