Job summary

Partner Engineering & Science, Inc. is seeking an experienced Director of Benefits & Payroll to design, administer, and optimize our employee benefits and payroll programs in Torrance, CA.

Reporting to the CFO and partnering with the CPO and senior leadership, you will ensure regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and a superior employee experience. The ideal candidate is tech-savvy, data-driven, and capable of balancing strategic planning with day-to-day execution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of progressive experience in benefits, payroll, total rewards, or related HR leadership functions.
• Experience overseeing complex employee benefits programs and 401(k) plan administration.
• Experience leading payroll operations for a multi-state workforce.
• Demonstrated experience partnering directly with senior executives, including CFO and CPO.
• Strong analytical, financial, and business acumen.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, deadline-oriented and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the strategy, administration, and optimization of all employee benefit programs.
• Oversee the administration and governance of the company’s 401(k) plan, including vendor management, compliance testing, audits, and fiduciary responsibilities.
• Manage annual open enrollment processes, employee education, communication strategies, and vendor relationships.
• Direct all aspects of payroll administration for a multi-state workforce.
• Establish payroll controls, processes, and audits for compliance.
• Partner with Finance on payroll reporting, reconciliations, and labor cost analysis.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and present analyses related to benefits costs and payroll trends.
