Job summary

Merit HR (Merit Resource Group) is partnering with a California nonprofit to hire a Benefits & Leaves Manager. The role oversees benefits for 900+ employees and leads a small team, with focus on self-funded medical plans, compliance and cost optimization.

The position is fully remote for California candidates, with quarterly onsite travel to SSF as needed. Strong collaboration with brokers, TPAs and HR colleagues is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience leading benefits strategy for a large workforce.
• Strong analytical skills to improve plan performance and costs.
• Ability to communicate complex benefits concepts clearly.

Responsibilities

• Lead comprehensive benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, life, wellness and a 403(b).
• Manage a self-funded medical plan with broker/TPA oversight.
• Oversee leave administration (FMLA, CFRA, PDL) and California accommodations.
• Provide leadership to a two-person benefits/leaves team.
