Job summary

Goodwin Recruiting is seeking an Assistant Controller in New York to lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, maintain the general ledger, and support external accountants during year-end. You will own journal entries, reconciliations, and ensure GAAP compliance while guiding a growing accounting team.

This role emphasizes financial reporting, variance analysis by product/category/location, and ERP enhancement to automate workflows.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field and 7+ years progressive accounting experience.
Leadership background as Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Director, or similar.
In-depth knowledge of GAAP, month-end close management, and financial statement prep.
ERP systems expertise and advanced Excel/financial analysis skills.
Experience in food distribution, seafood, wholesale, grocery, restaurant supply, or perishable products.

Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes with journal entries and reconciliations.
Prepare monthly reporting with metrics and analyze variances across products, categories, customers, and locations.
Oversee AR, AP and cash flow management, including collections and vendor invoices.
Manage inventory accounting, receiving/transfer controls, and sales commissions tracking.
Identify ERP improvements to reduce manual processes and automate workflows.
