Job summary

The University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking a Director of Administration & Finance to partner with the Department Head in managing the department’s business and fiscal operations, HR processes for faculty, researchers, and student employees, and coordination with HR Business Partners.

The role oversees budgeting, sponsored research finances, space management, and policy development within the Riccio College of Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering, in a hybrid schedule at

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience or Associate’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience.
• At least one year of experience supervising non-student staff.
• Working knowledge of budgetary and accounting principles for funded activities (federal, state, and non-state).
• Ability to read, understand, explain rules, regulations and procedures; follow complex instructions.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team; strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Advise the Department Head on current and projected operations and support strategic planning.
• Provide leadership and supervision to staff; ensure compliance with laws, policies, contracts, and regulations.
• Manage fiscal activity for department budgets, forecasts, and funding; develop financial metrics.
• Coordinate HR processes with HRBPs and support faculty, researchers, and student employees.
• Liaise with campus offices and manage space, renovations, and maintenance projects.
• Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures for compliance and efficiency.
