Job summary

The City of Albany invites applications for a Stormwater Maintenance Worker I to help maintain and improve stormwater quality facilities, the Albany ShrubHub nursery, and Talking Water Gardens. This is hands-on outdoor work that supports our community and environmental health.

You will perform basic and skilled maintenance, plant vegetation, and assist with weed control, irrigation, and record-keeping. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and reliable daily attendance in a city department

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or its equivalent; and at least one year of experience related to landscaping, landscaping construction, stormwater facility maintenance, farming, horticulture, tree maintenance, municipal stormwater system maintenance, natural systems maintenance, riparian invasive removal, riparian planting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Maintains hundreds of public stormwater quality facilities; assists in maintaining Talking Water Gardens wetland.
• Performs routine maintenance using landscaping tools for weeding, debris removal, grading, sediment removal, and plant care.
• Assists in responding to pollution issues and helps mitigate illicit discharges.
• Maintains records in the City's systems and uses field data collection tools.
• Provides training and orientation to new personnel as needed.
