Job summary

Washington State Department of Ecology's Northwest Region in Shoreline seeks a Stormwater Compliance Unit Supervisor (WMS1) to lead a team of eleven inspectors. Qualifications

• Regulatory and Compliance Oversight – apply laws, permits, and policies to ensure defensible decisions.
• Work Planning and Resource Management – organize work, set priorities, allocate staff and budget.
• Employee Leadership and Development – coach, evaluate, support staff performance.
• Documentation and Quality Assurance – review reports and enforcement documents for accuracy.
• Collaboration and Communication – work with staff, partners, and the public.
• Policy Interpretation – translate guidance into practical program actions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Stormwater Compliance Unit, provide training and feedback, travel to facilities.
• Plan and manage workload, set priorities, track progress to meet commitments.
• Develop procedures for field safety, data practices, and agency systems.
• Recruit vacancies, prepare descriptions, and act as hiring manager.
• Serve as section contact for policy development, permitting and No Discharge Zone work.
• Oversee enforcement actions and support legal proceedings as expert witness.
