Job summary

Washington State Department of Ecology seeks two Regional Shoreline Compliance/Enforcement Specialists to advance the Shoreline Master Program implementation across WA. You will audit permits, verify compliance, and develop proactive enforcement while strengthening local partnerships for no-net-loss outcomes.

Positions involve field verification, case development, and collaboration with state and federal partners. Telework options and a biweekly office presence support flexible schedules.

Qualifications

• Interpret and evaluate shoreline authorizations for SMA/SMP consistency.
• Assess SMP compliance through documents and site inspections.
• Develop enforcement documents and coordinate with legal partners.
• Manage project officers for grants/agreements; track deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Implement regional SMP audit and technical assistance.
• Provide monitoring process development for local governments.
• Conduct field verifications of priority shoreline projects.
• Lead enforcement activities: notices of violation, orders, and coordination with SEA and AG’s Office.
• Represent Ecology in hearings and negotiations on high-priority violations.
• Serve as project officers for grants related to shoreline compliance.
• Collaborate with planners, local governments, and partners for statewide SMP compliance.
