Job summary

City of Aurora, Colorado seeks an Environmental Inspector to join the Environmental Inspections Team. You will perform routine stormwater construction inspections and review plans to ensure MS4 compliance; engage with residents and permittees and provide outreach.

Requirements include an Associate's degree in a related field, 1 year of technical inspection experience, Colorado driver’s license, NIMS 100/700 and HAZWOPER 40-hour training. This role involves fieldwork in diverse environments.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in construction management, environmental studies or biological sciences or closely related field.
• 1 year of technical experience in inspection, construction, environmental or stormwater management
• NIMS 100/700 training within the first 6 months
• HAZWOPER 40-hour certification within the first year

Responsibilities

• Performs routine stormwater construction inspections to ensure construction sites maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations
• Inspects stormwater quality features and temporary active construction features to ensure proper maintenance and functioning
• Ensure compliance and guidance with MS4 for stormwater discharge permits
• Reviews engineering plans and Storm Water Management Plans (SWMPS) for conformance with applicable rules and regulations
• Provides informational outreach materials to Aurora residents, permittees, and other divisions and departments
• Investigates complaints regarding wastewater, pretreatment, stormwater, hazardous material/waste activities
• Incident response, coordination of cleanup, root cause analysis, and appropriate follow-up
• Responds to complaints regarding illicit discharges, odors, hazardous materials in the public and private sector
• Prepares inspection and incident response reports including compliance paperwork and notices of violation
• Maintains internal database and records of active permits
• Grease trap and sand trap inspection
• Creek and channel inspection to assist stormwater with routine maintenance and flood prevention
• Performs other related duties as assigned
