Summary

Michigan Technological University is seeking a Stores Clerk (12 months, 1st shift) for our Residential Dining departments. The role involves receiving, inventory management, distribution of products, and delivery of raw and prepared items as required. The position may assist with catering and other deliveries as needed.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties
  • Assist with a weekly physical count of inventories on hand as needed.
  • Assist with ordering inventory items with supervisor and coordinate as needed.
  • Receive vendor deliveries, inspect shipments, and ensure quality and condition of products received.
  • Review invoices and record discrepancies.
  • Assist with vendor credit memos as needed.
  • Store received goods in an orderly fashion, rotate stock, and break down cases.
  • Operate university vehicles including car, pickup truck, delivery van and truck.
  • Assist with purchasing of inventory items from approved vendors as directed.
  • Fill kitchen requests for food and supplies from storage locations.
  • Prepare, organize, deliver, and set up food and related items per customer requests.
  • Pick up equipment and prepare special reports as required.
  • Maintain safe, clean, sanitary storage and work areas including loading dock and vehicles.
  • Compare invoice pricing with pricing in computer database and update as needed.
  • Interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Commit to learning and applying continuous improvement strategies, and engage in university improvement initiatives.
  • Apply safety-related knowledge and practices to daily work.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
  • High School diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
Required Experience
  • Two years of experience in a food service operation.
  • One year of experience ordering and maintaining inventories in a foodservice environment.
  • Six months of experience serving customers.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with food items, product descriptions, packaging, and storage practices.
  • Ability to quickly learn and follow instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet vehicle use requirements.
  • Familiarity with computers, including computerized menu management systems and electronic order entry systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds and viewpoints.

Required Training and Other Conditions of Employment

All employees will receive four required trainings; additional training may be required by the department.

  • Required University Training: Employee Safety Overview; Anti-Harassment, Discrimination, Retaliation Training; Annual Data Security Training; Annual Title IX Training.
  • Background Check: Offers of employment are contingent upon the required background check being completed and assessed.
Additional Information
  • 1st shift hours start between 5am and before noon — base rate only.
