Job Summary

The University Campus Store is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Part-time Shipping and Receiving Shift Lead. This role primarily involves coordinating the handling of incoming and outgoing shipments, ensuring accuracy in inventory management, and providing exceptional customer service to students, faculty, and staff.

The University of Utah is the state’s public flagship institution and a top-tier research university. The University Campus Store is the retail arm of the university and is consistently ranked in the top 15 institutionally run campus stores in the nation. We serve over 40,000 students, faculty, and staff, along with millions of visitors each year.

  • Coordinate the daily operations of the shipping and receiving department during assigned shifts.
  • Provide guidance and support to shipping and receiving associates, ensuring adherence to established procedures and protocols.
  • Receive incoming shipments of merchandise, materials, and supplies.
  • Verify received items against purchase orders and packing slips to ensure accuracy.
  • Sort, label, and stock received merchandise in designated storage areas.
  • Prepare outgoing shipments, including packaging, labeling, and arranging for carrier pickup or drop-off.
  • Maintain organized and clean storage areas, ensuring efficient access to merchandise.
  • Assist with inventory counts and periodic audits to maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Operate shipping and receiving equipment, such as hand trucks, pallet jacks, and barcode scanners, safely and efficiently.
  • Follow established safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplace.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and vendors regarding shipment status, inventory levels, and any issues or concerns.
Minimum Qualifications

The ability to move or manipulate heavy objects; the ability to read and write in English; demonstrated human relation skills; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required. A knowledge of inventory control procedures would be helpful. Six months storeroom experience or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education) preferred. A valid Utah Driver’s license with proof of insurability may be required for persons in positions that require delivery.

Preferences
  • Previous experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in counting, sorting, and labeling merchandise.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy boxes and packages, up to 50 pounds, safely.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using basic computer software for inventory tracking and email communication.
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Flexible schedule availability, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Commitment to providing outstanding customer service to members of the university community.
  • Adherence to workplace safety regulations and willingness to follow safety protocols.
