Safeway in California is seeking a Third Person in Charge to oversee store operations during the absence of the Store Director and ASD. The role includes customer service, training new employees, hiring coordination, and ensuring merchandising execution.

You will supervise late shifts, drive store standards, handle customer issues, and help implement company policies. Strong communication, leadership, and a sense of urgency are essential, with flexibility to work varied hours.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Four+ years of retail experience required.
• Retail grocery experience preferred.
• Proficient customer service and supervisory skills.
• Strong written and oral communication, leadership and teamwork.
• Ability to work flexible hours.

Responsibilities

• Works primarily closing shifts to run total store operations in the absence of the Store Director and Assistant Store Director.
• Works with the ASD on center of store operations and fills in for ASD on days off.
• Overall management responsibility for the total store operation, including supervision of all employees and handling customer complaints.
• Initiates corrective action as needed in the absence of the Store Director and Assistant Store Director.
• Acts as the liaison between the Store Director/ASD and the late shift operations to ensure smooth store operations.
• Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques; handles customer relations issues.
• Performs ordering, receiving, storing, pricing, stocking, and merchandising duties; coordinates with late shift employees for day-to-day operations.
• Coordinates with ASD to prepare night/day stocker task lists.
• May perform duties of the receiving clerk in the absence of Inventory Control Clerk.
• Builds and executes marketing and merchandising plans with Head Clerks and other staff.
• Ordering for displays and minimizing out-of-stocks.
• Supports strategies to improve product placement, profit, sales and store standards.
• Trains Head Clerks/PICs for possible promotion to Third Person in Charge.
• Supports Store Director with Safety Culture and programs.
