Job summary

Safeway in California seeks a Third Person in Charge to oversee store operations during the absence of the Store Director and ASD. This role leads the late shift, coordinates with leadership, and helps with hiring and merchandising.

You will train Head Clerks, ensure safety and customer service excellence, manage daily tasks, and support strategic plans to improve sales and store standards. High school diploma and 4+ years retail/grocery experience preferred; flexible hours required.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Four or more years retail experience required.
• Retail grocery experience preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication required.
• Ability to work flexible hours (am/pm shifts).

Responsibilities

• Works primarily closing shifts to run total store operations in the absence of the Store Director and Assistant Store Director.
• Supervise staff and handle customer complaints in the absence of the SD/ASD.
• Coordinate with late shift employees and department leads.
• Assist with hiring and onboarding of new hires.
• Train Head Clerks and PICs for promotion.
• Develop merchandising and marketing plans for the store and work with Head Clerks/ PICs.
