Job summary

Safeway is seeking a Third Person in Charge to lead total store operations during closing shifts and in the absence of the Store Director and Assistant Store Director. You will supervise all store staff, handle customer issues, and coordinate with the ASD to ensure seamless day-to-day functions and adherence to merchandising policies.

The role requires strong supervisory and communication skills, a proactive leadership style, and the ability to work flexible hours.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Retail grocery experience preferred; four+ years in retail required.
• Proficient in customer service and supervision.

Responsibilities

• Works primarily closing shifts to run total store operations in the absence of the Store Director and ASD.
• Fills in for ASD on days off when ASD is covering for the Store Director or on vacation.
• Supervises all employees and handles customer complaints in the absence of the Store Director/ASD.
• Initiates corrective action as needed when the Store Director/ASD are absent.
• Acts as liaison between Store Director/ASD and late shift operations for smooth store functioning.
• Engages customers with fast, friendly service and employs suggestive selling techniques.
• Performs ordering, receiving, stocking, and merchandising; coordinates with late shift leads.
• Prepares night/day stocker task lists to guide openings/closeouts.
• May perform duties of the receiving clerk in the absence of Inventory Control Clerk.
• Builds and executes marketing/merchandising plans with Head Clerks and PICs.
• Supports hiring processes with stores and recruiters; ensures onboarding of new hires.
