Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Store Manager Candidate to assist the Store Manager in supervision, staffing, inventory control, stocking, receiving, and paperwork. This role focuses on developing external candidates for future Store Manager positions within a limited period.

The position involves duties across clerical, merchandising, and customer service functions, with emphasis on operating in a fast-paced retail environment while adhering to company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Reading and interpreting diagrams, safety rules, and procedures manuals.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations including percentages.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures and deposit controls.
• Familiarity with IBM cash register functions and report generation.
• Understanding of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Knowledge of cash, safety, and facility control policies (deposits, keys, safety programs).
• Experience recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and terminating with legal compliance.
• Strong oral and written communication skills; effective interpersonal skills.
• Organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to resolve problems in varied situations with limited standardization.
• Some locations may prefer bilingual Spanish speakers.

Responsibilities

• Assist in staffing and supervision activities.
• Support store merchandising and shelf presentation.
• Contribute to inventory management and damages, markdowns, scanning, and paperwork.
• Follow ordering practices to meet in-stock targets.
• Provide customer service leadership.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures as outlined in handbooks and SOPs.
• Participate in opening and closing store operations.
• Ensure safe deposit of funds and cashier accountability.
• Maintain store cleanliness and safety for customers and employees.
• Operate store in the manager's absence.
• Review financial statements to identify trends and opportunities.
• Complete all required paperwork on time.
