Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Store Manager Candidate in the United States to support the Store Manager in supervising staff, stocking, inventory, and daily store operations. This role is designed to develop external candidates for the Store Manager position and is limited in duration.

You will assist with recruiting, merchandising, inventory controls, cash handling, and reporting. The role emphasizes maintaining a safe, well-stocked store, bank deposits, and strong customer service leadership.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment preferred for external candidates.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit controls.
• Ability to learn IBM cash register functions and generate reports.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Experience with deposits, keys, safety programs and cash control procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Assist with store merchandising by facilitating stocking and presenting merchandise.
• Assist in all aspects of inventory management and prepare inventories.
• Follow prescribed ordering practices to meet in-stock targets.
• Provide superior customer service leadership.
• Operate store in store manager's absence.
• Review operating statements to identify trends and control opportunities.
• Complete all paperwork and documentation.
