Position Description
The Store Manager in Training (MIT) will receive comprehensive training to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to manage and oversee store operations in a convenience store environment. This position offers an excellent opportunity for growth and career advancement within the retail industry. The Store MIT will work closely with the Store Manager to gain hands-on experience in managing store operations, staff, inventory, and customer service, with the goal of eventually becoming a Store Manager.
Responsibilities
Training & Development:
- Participate in a structured training program that focuses on leadership, customer service, inventory management, and operational procedures.
- Assist in supervising and guiding staff, providing directions on store operations, preparation, cleanliness, and operational efficiency.
- Learn to manage day-to-day store operations, including store workflows, staff scheduling, product ordering, and product quality control.
Store Operations:
- Ensure compliance with all local and state health codes and food safety regulations. Train staff on proper sanitation, and safety procedures.
- Assist in managing inventory levels, including placing product orders, receiving deliveries, and performing stock rotation. Learn to conduct regular inventory counts and report discrepancies.
- Participate in customer service training and assist in creating a welcoming environment for customers.
Supervision & Training:
- Learn to schedule and supervise staff, ensuring adequate staffing levels during peak and off-peak hours. Assist in managing labor costs while maintaining service standards.
- Help train new employees in proper safety procedures, store protocols, and address employee issues professionally.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Learn to manage daily reports on sales, inventory, and waste. Assist in record-keeping for safety compliance.
- Assist in monitoring costs, waste management, and order volumes to maintain profitability.
- Learn employee scheduling and time tracking, ensuring policy and law compliance.
Health & Safety Compliance:
- Participate in safety training and emergency procedures, including equipment operation and hazardous materials handling.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify operational improvements and collaborate with management to implement solutions.
- Collect and analyze customer feedback to enhance service and operations.
- Assist in increasing efficiency, reducing waste, and maximizing store profitability.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in business is a plus.
- Prior retail or customer service experience preferred; supervisory experience required.
- Interest in retail management and willingness to develop skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid State Driver's License required.
